Smiley is a male Greater superb bird-of-paradise who first appeared in the episode "Birds of a Feather." He is capable of performing elaborate courtship displays. To execute it, he first attracts a female by vocalizing for her. Once she has arrived, he fans out his breast and cape feathers to make the shape of a smiley face, hence the reasoning for his name. He then starts vigorously bouncing circles around her while producing a loud cracking sound by snapping his tail feathers together. The female that Smiley was performing for in the episode wasn't very impressed and flew off, although he certainly did fascinate the Wild Kratts team.
