The Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) is a small canid native to East Asia. They get their name from their striking resemblance to the raccoon, with the black mask and thick fur just like one. Also like a raccoon, these canids are also adept climbers, often scaling trees to find berries and bird eggs. They are the only canids that hibernate, and are built for winter climates by having a thick, soft coat of fur to insulate themselves.
