The Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi), also called the monkey-eating eagle, is a species of eagle endemic to the forest of the Philippines. The Philippine eagle is considered the largest of the extant eagles in the world in terms of length and wing surface area, though the Steller's sea eagle and harpy eagle are larger in terms of weight and bulk. They are deadly hunters of the rain forests they inhabit, filling in the same niche in nature the harpy eagle does in Central and South America. These raptors will hunt primates, but also other animals such as rodents, monitor lizards, and snakes. They are critically endangered due to deforestation and poaching.
