The Little Brown Bat (Myotis lucifugus) is a species of myotis bat native to North America. They are distinguished by their brown, glossy fur. They hunt prey by using echolocation like many other bat species and also like sperm whales, and dolphins. Bat wings are actually long stretched out fingers with webbing in between them. So a bat wing is really just a webbed hand. Contrary to popular belief, bats are not blind and have great night-vision, but spotting tiny insects at night needs more of an audible approach. Bats are surprisingly closely related to primates and like primates, can live more than 40 years in the wild. However, these bats are facing a big problem. Little brown bats are being wiped out because of a deadly fungus that causes a disease called white-nose syndrome which can kill off bats during hibernation.
