The Komodo Dragon (Varanus komodoensis) is a species of lizard from the islands of Indonesia. Its name comes from the island of Komodo, the main island it is native to. It is the largest known monitor lizard, as well as the largest lizard in the world. Like all monitor lizards, it has extremely toxic venom, which it can use to bring down prey the size of a water buffalo. While they are rare, attacks on humans by Komodo Dragons can happen, considering that the Dragon is capable of running at about the same speed as a typical human.
