The Indian Crested Porcupine (Hystrix indica), also known as the Indian porcupine, is a hystricomorph rodent species native to southern Asia and the Middle East. It is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. It belongs to the Old World porcupine family, Hystricidae.
Like its relative, the African crested porcupine, it has long, sharp quills that it uses to defend itself from attackers. It is nocturnal and mostly herbivorous.
