The Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is a species of shark that can be found in oceans around the world. It is among the most famous shark species and is one of the largest predatory fish.
Like most oceanic fish species, female great whites are much larger than male great whites; this is mostly due to females needing the extra bulk to bear live young. Great white sharks prey on a variety of marine animals, including seals, seabirds, and fish; seals are eaten more often because of their high fat content. Great whites are known to rocket out of the ocean surface like living missiles in order to grab airborne prey.
Despite their reputation in media as man eaters, great whites usually avoid humans as their prey as most great white shark attacks on humans are usually mistaken identity.
