The Wild Kratts go on an expedition into the Chinese mountains to find the amazing golden snub-nosed monkeys, a species of cold-adapted monkeys living in the snowy highlands. But when Martin becomes separated in an avalanche and his power suit malfunctions, it's a race against time for the Wild Kratts to find Martin, the Giant Snub-Nosed Monkey Man!

Synopsis[]

The Wild Kratts travel to China looking for snub-nosed monkeys: primates capable of surviving in snowy mountains. However, the team soon must search for Martin, who not only gets lost in the mountains along with a baby snub-nosed monkey, but is transformed into a Yeti-like creature when his Snub-nosed Monkey Creature Power Suit malfunctions. The other Wild Kratts aren't the only ones looking for Martin, either - Zach Varmitech plans to capture the Yeti and show it to people in exchange for money. Unfortunately for Martin, he is the closest thing to a Yeti in the mountains.

Plot[]

The episode opens with a live-action segment. Chris and Martin Kratt hiking through the southern mountains of China just at the end of summer. The bros are looking for a type of monkey that can handle the coldest weather. And they soon find them: golden snub-nosed monkeys. With their golden fur, skeletal like noses, and blue faces, they're awesome looking creatures. The troop that Martin and Chris are wit is an all-male troop. But male or female, all golden snub-nosed monkeys have to take pride in making sure that their coats are well groomed. The brothers then wonder what it would be like to have the powers of the golden snub-nosed monkey and the show transitions into the cartoon segment.

The Wild Kratts crew are flying the Tortuga over the Daba Mountains, a range just near the Himalayas, while the Kratt Brothers are in the foothill region in search of a troop of monkeys. Aviva doubts the presence of monkeys that live in cold habitats, but Chris and Martin are determined to find them. To their surprise, the troop of golden snub-nosed monkeys finds them. Martin encounters a baby monkey, and names him Blue Goggle, after his blue face. They struggle to keep up with the troop, lead by Blue Goggle's father, whom Martin names Golden Ice.

Meanwhile, in his skyscraper, Zach Varmitech does research about the Yeti, a man-like snow creature of legend. He sees the opportunity to get rich off of a display of the creature, and encourages his Zachbots to dig deeper. In the mountains, Martin and Chris's noses turn red due to them sticking out. But because the monkeys' noses are snubbed, and their fingers are stubby and furry, they are less suceptible to the cold. Aviva finishes programming the Monkey Power Discs, which Jimmy teleports to them. Blue Goggle steals Martin's disc, which prompts Chris to activate Golden Snub-nosed Monkey Power to get it back. Suddenly, Chris and Blue Goggle fall down a hill, forming a giant runaway snowball that consumes Martin, and later Aviva. The snowball is split by a rock, separating Aviva and Chris from Martin and Blue Goggle. Martin and Aviva's Creaturepods are damaged, whilst Chris's is gone, rendering the four unable to call for help. To help Blue Goggle return to his troop, Martin activates Golden Snub-nosed Monkey Power. However, due to the damage that his Creature Power Suit took in the excitement, the suit malfunctions into a giant yeti-esque version. With the warm fur of the monkey, he begins to search for Blue Goggle's troop. As he does so, he is mistaken for a Yeti by a nearby bamboo collector, who runs away in fear. Meanwhile, Aviva and Chris come across Golden Ice and his troop, who are in search of Blue Goggle. That night, they all huddle together to stay warm. The following morning, Koki and Jimmy try to find the rest of the crew, and they see a news report of Zach Varmitech in search of the fabled Yeti, and they decide to keep an eye on him.

Golden Ice's troop feasts on lichen, but they're ambushed by a clouded leopard. Chris helps Golden Ice and the other monkeys fend the feline off, and is rewarded with a higher rank in the troop. Meanwhile, Martin and Blue Goggle reach a ledge to try and spot the Tortuga. Martin eventually decides to make a signal using tree branches. As he rips away at the tree, Zach mistakes him for a Yeti, and calls upon his Zachbots to attack. Despite Martin's efforts to defend himself, he's eventually knocked out and captured alongside Blue Goggle. Back with the troop, Golden Ice finds Chris's lost Creaturepod, and they message Koki to inform them of their predicament. They then receive another news report that Zach Varmitech has indeed captured the Yeti. The crew pauses the feed and realizes that the yeti is actually Martin wearing the malfunctioned CPS. Koki and Jimmy pick Aviva and Chris up to rescue him.

As Zach carries Martin down the mountain, he eventually realizes he's not actually a "yeti." Zach refuses to let them go and captures Blue Goggle as a bargaining chip in order to force Martin to act like a yeti. He's then attacked by Aviva and Chris, who pelt him and his bots with snowballs. The Zachbots fight back by launching snowballs at them. Chris is able to sneak past the bots and free Martin. The brothers then use their Golden-Snub-nosed Monkey Powers to defeat the Zachbots and Zach. Martin throws a giant snowball at Zach, freeing Blue Goggle. Zach retreats in fury, and the crew heads to the lower valley where it's less cold. Aviva is ready to fix the suit's malfunction, but before he re-activates, Martin instigates a snowball fight.

The episode transitions into the concluding live action segment. The golden snub-nosed monkeys are active in the summertime as much as the winter, which gives the brothers the opportunity to safely observe them grooming and eating. Afterwards, they conclude the episode by saying "Keep on creature adventuring; we'll see you on the creature trail!".

Trivia[]

  • This is the second appearance of the Zach-Terrain Vehicle, though it has since been repurposed to function as a sled.
  • This is the only episode where Martin's Golden Snub-nosed Monkey Power Suit malfunctions.
    • At the end of this episode, Aviva fixes the suit's malfunction. This is confirmed in the next episode, "Red Panda Rescue."
  • When Chris says, "Activate Golden Snub-nosed Monkey Power!", he mentions that the sentence is a mouthful. This could a reference to the fact that the sentence uses more than three or four words. In the previous episodes, Martin and Chris say three or four words when they activate their Creature Power Suits.
  • Whether or not that the Yeti exists, some believe it could be the extinct giant ape; Gigantopithecus, the largest ape that has ever existed. Which died out 100,000 years ago when the bamboo forests they depend on for food shrank and disappeared, but the odds of one alive though are 484,000 to 1.
  • There has been no documented case of a wild clouded leopard attacking a human; good news for Aviva when they were lost in the mountains with the monkeys.
  • The animation of the Tortuga HQ flying over the Daba Mountain range was eventually recycled for Wild Kratts Live 2.0: Activate Creature Power!
  • This episode was aired out of order, as Blue Goggle, the baby snub-nosed monkey, is first introduced in this episode; However, he previously appeared in the one-hour special, "A Creature Christmas."

Key Facts and Creature Moments[]

  • Golden snub-nosed monkeys can eat bark and lichen in harsh winters with little food available.
  • The troop is led by an adult alpha male monkey.
  • A golden snub-nosed monkey troop fighting against a clouded leopard.
