The Colombian Red Howler (Alouatta seniculus), or Venezuelan red howler , is a species of howler monkey native to the Western Amazon Basin. They are famous for their loud, roaring calls. These deep roars can be heard from more than a mile away. They use this call to keep other male howler monkeys out of their territory. Their large throat sacs have a special hyoid bone in their larynx to amplify their calls. These monkeys are strictly vegetarian and eat mostly leaves and fruits.
