The American Barn 0wl (Tyto furcata) is a species of owl widely distributed throughout the Americas, from southern Canada to southernmost South America. Formerly grouped together with the western and eastern barn owls as the barn owl, it is now usually recognized as a distinct species. They get their name from their common habit of nesting near human settlements and often finding ways to nest inside barns, attics, and cellars.
